A Modern day Jarrow march by hundreds of people campaigning to save the NHS will pass through Ashfield tomorrow 28th August.

The 300 mile trek in protest against privatising the National Health Service has been inspired by the famous march of 1936, against poverty and unemployment.

A rally in Mansfield Marketplace this evening will give the people of Mansfield an opportunity to show support for the current NHS and join in a fun welcome for the marchers.

A “feeder” march from the John Cockle pub will take place at 4.45pm today (Wednesday)

The march will than leave King’s Mill Centre at 10am tomorrow, when hundreds of protestors will set off from King’s Mill Hospital and march through Ashfield.

To show her support for the mums and all the other demonstrators fighting for the NHS, MP Gloria De Piero will join marchers at the beginning of the section of the walk when they make their way through her constituency and onto Nottingham.

The march will continue through Sutton, Kirkby, Newstead, Hucknall and Bulwell, arriving in Nottingham Forest Recreation Ground.

The Jarrow mums will leave Kingsmill at 10am on the following course:

Walk along Mansfield Road to Outram Street

Outram Street to Forest Street

Forest Street to Station Road

Stastion Road to Kirkby Folly Road

Kirkby Folly Road to Lowmoor Road

Lowmoor Road through Kirkby Precinct

Kirkby Precinct to Kingsway

Kingsway to Shoulder of Mutton Hill

Shoulder of Mutton Hill to Derby Road

Derby Road to School Hill

School Hill to Hucknall

To raise awareness of the cause, the ‘999 People’s March for the NHS’ will cover over 300 miles and travel through 23 towns and cities on its way to London, retracing the footsteps of the 207 marchers who marched from Jarrow to Parliament during the Great Depression.
