Newstead Abbey West Front

09-1542-1 Newstead Abbey West Front

A ‘NEWSTEAD Abbey Day’ will be a special feature of this year’s annual Byron Festival, to be held from Thursday 27th June 27 to Sunday 7th July.

A full programme of activities has been arranged at Lord Byron’s ancestral home on Saturday 26th June.

This will include a poetry reading by Dr Peter Cochran, a talk on the mysterious White Lady by David Herbert and a theatrical performance by actor Ian Frost and playwright Bill Studdiford.

The Blue Boar Scooter Club will appear at the abbey after riding from Hucknall Market Place. Entertainment will be provided by Nottinghamshire Police Band and a group of Greek dancers, while a teddy bears’ picnic is to be arranged for children.

Other attractions at the festival, will include the Hellespont Challenge sponsored swim, a Byron Walk in Nottingham city centre, a book fair and a talk on the poet’s romantic attachments.
