An organisation set up to help the development of local sports clubs is to launch its own website at its annual meeting.

Representatives from sports clubs in Newark and Sherwood are being invited to the annual general meeting of the Newark and Sherwood Sports Council on Monday 12th November at Kelham Hall. There will be a light buffet at 6:30pm with the meeting starting at 7pm.

The Newark and Sherwood Sports Council was set up by the sports development team at Newark and Sherwood District Council, and Paul Baggaley, chairman of the Newark and Sherwood Sport and Physical Activity Partnership - a group which promotes sport and physical activity within the community.

The principal aim of the sports council is to advance sport in Newark and Sherwood and provide the best possible support to the district’s clubs.

Club and Coach Development Officer with the council, Fiona Houghton, said: “It’s vital we get as many local clubs as possible represented on the council so we can work together to improve sport provision in the district.

“All clubs represented will be included in a prize draw to win a £100 voucher to spend on sports equipment.

“Following the meeting there will be a Sports Makers’ volunteering workshop where new and aspiring club volunteers will find out about opportunities, roles and how to get involved in volunteering.”

All those who attend will receive a T-shirt and goody bag. The new Newark and Sherwood Sports Council website will also be launched at the event -

Both new and existing members are welcome to attend. Benefits of affiliating include gaining exclusive and first-hand information on funding and coach education workshops, as well as the opportunity network with other sports clubs, sharing good practice and experiences.

For further information on the AGM or to affiliate to the council, please contact Fiona Houghton on 01636 655291 or email fiona.houghton@nsdc.info
