AN ONLINE petition has been started by residents in a bid to get traffic lights installed at a dangerous junction near Bilsthorpe.
Calls for improved safety at the junction of the A614 and Mickledale Lane have been ongoing for years following a number of accidents.
Chad reported in February 2009 how six people died in a two car smash near to the junction. Four people died in one car - two people in the other vehicle. The speed limit was reduced to 50mph in 2011 but residents want further action.
The latest petition, by www.bilsthorpe.com founder Bobby Baguley, is urging people to pledge their support .
John Peck, recently elected county councillor for Rufford, said: “I’ll be working with the people behind the petition to help get something done. I have made it my number one priority for Bilsthorpe.
“Residents have been trying for 30 odd years to improve safety. It is an accident blackspot and is a very difficult junction to get out of.
“Rose Cottage junction has recently had traffic lights, I think there is a strong case for this junction as well.”
Coun Robert Bradbury, of Newark and Sherwood District Council, added: “We’ve been campaigning for donkey’s years but nothing has been done. I’ll support any safety measures which can be added.”
