A COUPLE are looking to restore the reputation of a once-popular pub and restuarant which closed without explanation earlier this year.
Anita and Russell Sweetmore have taken on Teversal Grange, which made headlines in February when it ceased trading in mysterious circumstances.
The enthusiastic couple, who are originally from Sutton and came out of retirement just to tackle the job, are hoping to turn it into a community hub once again having received the keys five weeks ago.
Anita (60) said: “The place was gutted and we’ve had to refurbish right from scratch, it’s been a big project but we are getting there.
“For the past five weeks it’s been non-stop painting, decorating and cleaning just so we can get it up and running.
“We’ve always been in this business and Teversal Grange is the only place we would have come out of retirement for.
“We’ve got people coming in every day asking when we’re going to be open and we’ve got bookings for functions already.
“It’s very much a community place and we want it to be back where it was before.”
The couple, who have won awards before as publicans in Derbyshire, are planning on transforming one area of the premises into a sports bar, have the restaurant with a carvery and a snug area for dog walkers.
There is also the function room area in which they plan to bring in singers and other entertainers.
The venue, which opens next Wednesday, 17th October, has also undergone a slight name change, and is now known as The Grange at Teversal.
“Although we did not really want to change it too much, we felt that it needed a bit of a revamp,” Anita added.
