Nappy offer to Mansfield and Ashfield parents

PARENTS across Mansfield and Ashfield are being given a cash back offer to use real nappies instead of disposable ones.

Nottinghamshire County Council are encouraging mums and dads to choose reusable nappies in an attempt to cut rubbish by offering £25 cash back for every £50 spent.

This initiative is also in response to fears of a possible world shortage of disposable nappies following a fire in one of the biggest manufacturing plants in Japan.

“It’s estimated that some eight million disposable nappies are thrown away everyday across the UK,” said Coun Richard Butler, chairman of the County Council’s environment and sustainability committee.

“They can’t be recycled and using real nappies is one valuable way we can cut down on the amount of waste going to our landfill sites across the county which are rapidly filling up.

“Modern real nappies are surprisingly easy to use and wash and could save you up to £500 from the birth of a child to potty training -- one compelling reason to think about using them even if you’re not particularly environmentally conscious.”

Real nappies cost as little as £2 each and around £1 per week to wash at home.
