Mystery biker fled scene after Mansfield dad killed in horror crash
Keron Daws was a member of the Mansfield Amateur Boxing Club
AN INQUEST into the death of a Mansfield dad-of-two killed in an A617 crash heard how a biker involved in the incident has still not been identified.
Keron Daws (28) of Langford Road, off Skegby Lane died after a head-on crash with a Nissan Micra near Rainworth on 5th May last year.
Witnesses told the hearing in Nottingham how Mr Daws was tailgating another motorcyclist at speed before losing control and sliding onto the wrong side of the road.
Some believed the pair were racing while others simply thought they were friends out riding together.
The inquest was told the second biker was test-driving a bike belonging to Mr Daws’ close friend Paul White but was not known to either of them.
Following the crash, the second biker stopped briefly but fled the scene before returning the bike to Mr White.
Police issued CCTV images of the biker but he hasn’t been traced.
Giving evidence, Mr White, known as ‘Chalky’, explained how he and Mr Daws met the biker the previous week at an the MFN biker club in Eastwood but didn’t ask his name.
A forensic crash investigator estimated Mr Daws’ speed at about 80mph.
The elderly couple in the Nissan received head, chest and rib injuries.
A post-mortem revealed Mr Daws died as a result of multiple injuries.
After the hearing Mr Daws’ mum Jean said: “Somebody out there knows who this other motorcyclist is.”
Recording a verdict of accidental death, coroner Mairin Casey said: “This is a tragic death.
“There is one individual involved whose identity remains a mystery.
“He was aware Mr Daws had been involved in a catastrophic accident.
“He was quick to leave the scene when he realised the enormity of the event.
“It is unforgivable that somebody should behave that way.”
