A murder inquiry is underway following the death of a 48-year-old man in Mansfield.

Emiel Blankert died yesterday evening Friday, 13th December, having been admitted to King’s Mill Hospital with critical injuries four days earlier.

Detectives think he was the victim of an assault in the days before he presented himself at hospital.

Anyone who knows Emiel, who is originally from Holland, is being asked to step forward to ascertain how he came to be injured.

He was white, around 5ft 10ins tall and of medium build, had green eyes and collar-length brown hair.

Det Chief Insp Tony Heydon said: “We are focussing our inquiry on Emiel’s movements on Monday afternoon, in the few square miles of his home in Ladybrook. Did you see anything unusual in that area that afternoon?

“We know Emiel went The Ladybrook pub in Ladybrook Lane that afternoon. Were you in or around the pub at this time? If you have any information call us.”

Two women, aged 48 and 27, and a 21-year-old man have been arrested in connection with the incident. They have been bailed pending further enquiries.

A Home Office post-mortem examination will take place to determine the cause of death.

Specially-trained officers are supporting Emiel’s family at this time.

Anyone with information should call the incident room on 01623 483118 or call Crimestoppers anonymously.
