MRI Appeal: Mansfield fundraiser aims to repay King’s Mill Hospital for saving her life

A MANSFIELD woman who had her life saved by King’s Mill Hospital two decades ago has organised a fundraising event to ‘pay the hospital back.
Denise Starkey was rushed to King’s Mill more than 20 years ago and underwent an emergency operation after she contracted blood poisoning from a burst appendix.
Now kind-hearted Denise, who owns her own online business Gracegentle Ltd, has organised a garden party at her home to help raise hundreds of pounds for Chad’s life-changing MRI Scanner Appeal.
Said Denise: “I went to my doctors and was sent straight up to King’s Mill Hospital where they operated on me. They saved my life and I want to say thankyou to them.
“The NHS gets a raw deal at times, which makes me really angry. During my life I have had two operations and three babies and I cannot fault anything King’s Mill Hospital has done.
“I have had to have MRI scans, so has my mother and so has a close friend, so this is an appeal that is close to my heart.
“My mother’s scan detected something that the hospital dealt with very quickly.
“I support the hospital through and through. I have always been involved in hospital-related charities and am delighted to be supporting the MRI appeal.”
Chad teamed up with King’s Mill Hospital on 27th June as part of an ambitious appeal to raise £750,000 to help hospital bosses purchase a state-of-the-art MRI scanner.
The new scanner would help King’s Mill deliver quicker, safer and more detailed diagnosis to hundreds of thousands of patients from across the area over the next seven years.
The fundraising event will take place on 29th September between 11am to 6pm at Denise’s 4 Century Avenue home in Mansfield.
Attractions include face-painting, sweet stalls, raffle prizes and stalls from a variety of local businesses who will be donating a percentage of their profits from the event to the MRI fund.
