Motorcyclist dies after crash near Alfreton

A 27-year-old man has died after his motorcycle was in collision with a lorry on the A61 near Shirland.

At around 3.30pm yesterday (Tuesday 29th January 29) a collision occurred on the A61 north of Alfreton involving a Yamaha motorcycle and a heavy goods vehicle.

Emergency services including the air ambulance attended but the rider of the motorcycle sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Part of the A61 was closed for several hours between Westhouses and Shirland.

Police are investigating the circumstances of the collision and are appealing for witnesses to contact PC Paul Moorcroft of the collision investigation unit police 01773 572929.
