More than 1,000 back Cuckney Hill speed camera campaign

MORE than 1,000 people have backed a Chad campaign to install speed cameras on the A60 Cuckney Hill between Church Warsop and Cuckney.
Petition forms left at shops and newsagents in the area have continued to flood in after the dangerous stretch of road claimed a sixth victim since 2006 last month.
Warsop Parish Council are the latest to back the appeal after MP Sir Alan Meale and county councillor John Allin pledged their support. Coun Allin believes average speed cameras could be the best option.
Parish council chairman Stuart Moody said: “We’ve tried to get things done before but didn’t seem to get anywhere.
“The speed limit has been reduced but it’s clear that more needs to be done.
“I’m sure councillors would fully support anything which can make the road safer.
“It is a huge straight stretch of road and, in my opinion, people just put their foot down and go for it.
“At the top of the hill there are two lay-bys and it seems cars will pull into one and then use the other to make a u-turn. But it is on a blind brow and people can’t see what is coming.”
Petition forms, which are also available at Chad offices in Newgate Lane, will be handed over to transport chiefs by editor Tracy Powell and Coun Allin at a full meeting of Nottinghamshire County Council on 20th September.
