A peace garden created in memory of a Mansfield solider who died after returning to the UK after being taken ill whilst serving in Afghanistan has been officially opened.

Since Lance Corporal Taran Cheeseman died, aged 21, in 2009, his parents, Steven and Tracey Cheeseman have been raising funds to create a permanent memorial to him in his home town and have raised over £11,000 through various events.

Now, with the help of £35,000 from the county council’s Local Improvement Scheme (LIS), the permanent memorial to Lance Corporal Cheeseman in Ladybrook Lane, Mansfield, has been created and was opened officially on 7th June.
