In the first round of voting the candidates polled:

Kate Allsop (Conservative) 3,351

Lorna Carter (Labour) 4,773

Mike Comeford (Green Party) 811

Tony Egginton (Independent) 4,150

Phil Smith (Liberal Democrat) 958

The turnout was just 14.48 per cent, 14,462 of the electorate.

But as none of the five candidates polled more than half of the overall vote, the election has now gone to the second vote.

The fight for the town's top job is nopw a straight fight between Labour's Lorna Carter and Independent Tony Egginton.

The second choice votes from the eliminated candidates will now be added to the two leading candidates where appropriate, to determine the winner.

An announcement on who is the new mayor of Mansfield is expected after midnight.
