A MANSFIELD man who made monkey noises when racially abusing a nightclub doorman has been fined and ordered to pay compensation.

Corey Hadden, (22) of Dale Close, Blidworth claimed it was drinking tequila for the first time which caused him to act ‘out of character’.

Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting at Mansfield Magistrates Court, said Hadden was also seen on CCTV punching cars and signs in the town centre on December 26th last year.

Mr Pietryka said: “The defendant was clearly drunk at the time.

“He was refused entry into a club then made monkey noises towards the door staff.”

Hadden then made a racist comment towards a black doorman from just a few feet away.

Police were called and Hadden was arrested.

In interview he told officers he had been out drinking with a friend since about 7.30pm.

Yvonne Wragg, defending, said: “This was out of character for him.

“He drank tequila for the first time and after that the evening is a bit of a blur to him.

“He’s not a racist person and has friends from all backgrounds.

“He is very sorry and ashamed.

“Since this incident, he’s not been out drinking at all because he’s decided it’s not worth the trouble.”

Hadden admitted using racially aggravated threatening words and behaviour.

He was fined £260 and ordered to pay £50 compensation to the doorman.

Passing sentence, chairman of the bench Keith Ward said: “We have taken into account this was a one-off incident, nevertheless it is quite unacceptable to say these things to people.”

Hadden was also ordered to pay £50 costs and a £26 victim surcharge.
