The family of a boy who is terminally ill are appealing to the public for help to raise money for one last holiday together.
Seven-year-old Kayleb Godfrey, from Mansfield, was born with Cerebral palsy, global development delay and chronic liver disease.
Last week Kayleb’s family received a phone call to say he had been taken off the liver transplant list and put on an end of life plan.
His family are now desperately trying to raise money for a holiday to Disneyland Florida as they don’t know how long he will live.
Aymie Godfrey, Kayleb’s mum, said the news was heartbreaking but doctors said it was in Kayleb’s best interests since he is too weak to cope with surgery and the aftercare.
She said: “Kayleb will never go on holiday again, this will literally be the trip of a lifetime for him and us. It will be extra special.
“Make-a-Wish have part-funded the trip for Kayleb, me, Nicky and his mama Jayne, but we want the rest of the family to be there.
“We don’t know how long Kayleb has left and so we are asking people to dig deep.”
The family aim to raise £3,000 by February 2014 to go on holiday for Kayleb’s eighth birthday.
Any money raised above that amount will be donated between Rainbow’s Children Hospice, where Kayleb receives respite care, the Children’s Liver Disease Foundation and Make-a-Wish Foundation.
Nigel Millband, Kayleb’s grandad, said: “I will do all I can to make Kayleb’s short life as comfortable and happy as possible. I have all the time in the world but Kayleb doesn’t, we ask people to help in any way they can.”
The fundraiser takes place on 15th September at The Tower’s public House, Botany Avenue, Mansfield, NG18 5NG.
There will be a charity auction, raffle, tombola, facepainting, a bouncy castle and more
The fundraiser starts at noon and finishes at 4pm.
