Man said he wanted to go to prison after Warsop assault
A MAN who assaulted his wife has been jailed for four months after telling magistrates he needed to ‘reflect on his behaviour’ in prison.
Wayne Bamford (28) pleaded guilty to assault and criminal damage following an incident at a house in Warsop on 29th July.
He appeared before district judge Diane Baker last month, but the case was adjourned for a pre sentence report. He was due to be sentenced on 10th September.
However, over the Bank Holiday weekend Bamford decided he was not going to co-operate with probation and needed a jail term to get a fresh start on his release.
Daniel Pietryka, prosecuting, said Bamford had assaulted his wife following a row over the tumble dryer being left on.
After losing his temper, Bamford hit her on the side of the head and pushed her backwards. She was left with a 3cm lump on her head.
Bamford also smashed a television, made holes in the walls and damaged an antique clock.
Mr Pietryka said the victim contacted her father, who visited the property, and a fight between Bamford and him resulted in more damage being caused to the Warsop home.
Speaking through his solicitor, Bamford told the court he had problems with drink, had lost his job and was taking anti-depressants. Frustration had got the better of him on the day of the assault.
Bamford, of Norwood Gardens, Southwell, told magistrates he wanted to go to prison to reflect on his behaviour and take time to consider what is important to him.
He said time away from alcohol would give him the chance to prove to himself he can be a good husband, then start rehabilitation on his release.
For the assault Bamford was jailed for four months. He was given two months for the damage to run concurrently.
