Man faked chest pains while partner ransacked Kirkby home

A KIND-hearted woman was tricked into helping a man get medical aid while his female accomplice burgled the woman’s Kirkby home.
Trickster Wesley Smith (34) and co-accused Carol Taylor (36) were each jailed for two years.
They had criminal records for dishonesty and drugs offences and pleaded guilty to burglary.
When the victim pulled up in her car outside her home in Kingsway last October she saw Smith on a bike, Nottingham Crown Court was told.
“He was clutching his chest and said he was having pains,” said Jonathan Dea, prosecuting.
“She drove him to the doctor’s surgery and he thanked her.
“But it was a ruse to get her away. Taylor at the time was stealing from her house.”
When the occupier returned home she found a panel in her kitchen door had been kicked in and the house ransacked.
A large amount of property was missing, including three laptops, jewellery including her grandmother’s ring, clothing, a watch, wallet and camera.
CCTV showed Taylor emerging from the house with a holdall.
The following day she was found with a rucksack containing a watch, bag and jacket from the burglary – and a small amount of amphetamine for her own use, said Mr Dea.
Taylor’s barrister Jeremy Janes said the house had been left empty from 10.30pm to 9.30am and other people could have gone in before his client.
She was homeless, using a tent in a friend’s back garden nearby, and mixing with people not good for her.
She now had a hostel place and said she was free of drugs.
In mitigation for Smith it was said he was the look-out and acted on impulse when the occupier returned.
Judge Nigel Godsmark said there had been a degree of planning and organisation.
