Lucky clubber narrowly escapes jail

A clubber celebrating his birthday was lucky to avoid jail after being arrested in Mansfield one day after his suspended sentence expired.

Reece Swain, 25, of Kingsway, Kirkby, admitted causing criminal damage to a door in Rewind night club on April 16.

Mansfield Magistrates’ Court was told that Swain had also been convicted on April 16 , 2015 for two assaults on a female. He was given 42 days’ prison, suspended for 12 months.

For his latest charge, Swain was spotted in the nightclub on CCTV forcing a door open with his foot.

In mitigation, Abbie Edwards said he had been going through a difficult time because his son had been taken off him and that he didn’t really drink but decided to go out with friends to celebrate his 25th birthday.

She said he had no recollection of the evening, but was remorseful.

District Judge Andrew Meachin told him: “It was fortunate for you that your suspended sentence ran out.”

He was fined £65, made to pay £250 compensation and £85 costs.
