Kirkby stabbing death street still cordoned off

Gleneagles Drive remained cordoned off this morning as officers collected evidence.

The woman who died on her way to hospital after she was stabbed on Saturday night has still not been named by police.

A 40-year-old man arrested on suspicion of her murder had not been charged and was still in police custody this afternoon (Monday).

Police are appealing for witnesses to a disturbance in Kirkby-in-Ashfield in which a woman was stabbed and has subsequently died.

Officers were called to reports of a fight at an address in Gleneagles Drive at around 11pm on Saturday July 16.

The victim, believed to be in her 40s, had suffered stab wounds and was attended to by paramedics. She died on the way to hospital.

A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital with stab wounds. His injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

A 40-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and is in custody.

Neighbours on adjoining streets said they were shocked by what had happened.

One man who did not want to be identified, said: “We got home at 1am and there were three or four police cars in the street and it was all taped up. You hear about things like this happening but you never think it will happen on your own street. It is very sad.”

Craig Sheward, who has lived on nearby Turnberry Avenue for 11 years, said: “I heard some shouting and looked outside and saw a man who lives behind us with his hands on his head.

“It didn’t take long for the ambulance and police to turn up. When I looked out the window I could see the paramedics trying to give one person CPR by pushing on their chest and then they came back and took another one.
