A KIRKBY mum whose baby girl was born 13 weeks prematurely is to show her support to a hospital unit which helped save her life.

Nicola Channer will raise funds for the Neo-natal intensive care unit at King’s Mill Hospital during the annual nursery fair at The Rocking Horse Nursery in Kirkby to say a special thankyou for the countless hours of care her dangerously ill daughter Lily-Alice received.

Little Lily-Alice , who will be three in January, was born after just 27 weeks and spent more than three months receiving specialist treatment at King’s Mill Hospital, as well as spells at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Hull Royal Infirmary.

Nicola, who is acting manager at the nursery, said: “I went into labour at 26 weeks and had her at her 27 weeks.

“She was transferred to Doncaster before being brought back to King’s Mill where they found an infection.

“Lily-Alice was then sent to Hull, where she was diagnosed with a disease which affects her bowel and had to have an emergency operation.

“The doctors told us to prepare for the worst as they did not think she was going to make it.

“Thankfully she fought back and now she is like any other daughter. You would have no idea what she has gone through.

“King’s Mill helped saved my daughter’s life and I want to raise awareness of the fantastic work they put in and also give something back.”

The event, which takes place at the Kingsway Primary School facility on 8th December between 10am and noon, features a wide variety of events, including a raffle, tombola, face painting and cake stall.
