A TALENTED student from Kirkby is on his way to realising his dream of working in the television industry thanks to a BAFTA scholarship.
Michael Concannon is one of just six young people to benefit from the first BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts ) Scholarship Programme in the UK.
The 27-year-old has been awarded £9,800 which will fund his MA in Producing and Directing Television Entertainment at the National Film and Television School (NFTS).
He will also receive mentoring support from BAFTA members and free access to BAFTA events around the UK.
Michael, who studied English Literature with Creative Writing from the University of Hull, says that he was ‘overwhelmed’ when he found out he had been accepted onto the programme.
“It was a big surprise, incredibly unexpected,” he said.
To qualify Michael attended an interview in London where representatives from BAFTA grilled him about his previous experience and his plans for the future.
Michael, who is currently working on a 45-minute music show, added: “I have always been interested in film and television but I never thought I’d go into it.
“It’s a huge leap coming down to London.”
One day Michael, who is also a keen writer, hopes to develop his own programmes as well as have his own production company.
He particularly enjoys creating music shows, comedy and children’s shows.
As part of the programme, Michael will share what he has learnt on the BAFTA Guru website and participate in future BAFTA outreach to schools.
