THE trust which runs Sutton’s King’s Mill Hospital has announced the appointment of a new chief executive.

Paul O’Connor will take up the post at Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust in June.

Mr O’Connor is currently chief executive at Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, where he has worked for three years.

The trust’s interim chairman, Chris Mellor, said: “We are delighted that Paul will be joining us as chief executive.

“Paul brings with him a wealth of experience in ensuring the delivery of sound financial and organisational performance. During his time at Barnsley Hospital he has overseen many changes and significant improvements, with a particular focus on improving quality, safety and patient care.

“I am sure Paul will provide the stability and dynamic leadership required to drive the trust forward with our plans for growth, increased efficiency and the further development of our high quality services.”

He will replace Eric Morton, who was appointed interim chief executive in November last year.

Mr Morton was brought in to work at the trust shortly before Monitor, the independent regulator of NHS Foundation Trusts, stepped in to intervene in the running of the SFH when concerns over its finances emerged in September last year.
