King’s Mill Hospital staff begin assessment process for new MRI scanner

Kings Mill Hospital MRI Scanner Appeal launch.

STAFF from King’s Mill Hospital’s MRI unit have begun to access potential new replacements for the hospital’s existing MRI scanner.

Two radiologists and the superintendant radiographer in charge of the hospital’s MRI scanner recently viewed three state-of-the-art scanners as part of the ongoing campaign to purchase a new scanner.

So far more than £133,000 has been raised after Chad teamed up with hospital bosses to launch an ambitious apppeal to raise a massive £750,000 to purchase a new scanner.

Currently around 10,000 patients a year are treated using the existing MRI scanner.

Hospital bosses say the new scanner will allow them to treat more patients and provide more local people with local care.

Jayne Burkitt, radiography services manager, said: “The appeal is going very well and the staff are really impressed by how people have taken the appeal in like they have.

“We are impressed by the activities and range of fundraising events that have been organised.

“The clinical team have begun to evaluate potential replacement scanners. We have taken advice from an MRI expert in Nottingham and the next step of the process is to look at images and the available options.

“There is a mood of excitement at the moment, we cannot wait to get our hands on this state-of-the-art piece of equipment.

“This will help make the MRI unit one of the leading units in this area and gives us a wider range and more options on how we can treat people.

“We will be able to offer more local people treatment at King’s Mill Hospital, which is obviously of great benefit to all concerned.”

As part of the appeal local businesses and individuals have raised funds for our appeal, including collections, garden parties, charity food nights, cake bake sales, raffles and asponsored spin-a-thon.

Donations to our MRI appeal can be made by visiting Chad receptions, calling the customer services department at King’s Mill Hospital on 01623 672222, by visiting Sherwood Forest Hospital’s NHS Trust website, through Just Giving or by cheque.

All cheques should be made payable to Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charitable Funds.
