Jealous ex banned from contacting former girlfriend

A STANTON HILL man who breached his bail conditions by breaking into his ex-partner’s house to check-up on her was given a community order today (Thursday).

Mansfield Magistrates’ Court heard how Ashley Lewis (19), of Thoresby Crescent, been ordered not to contact her after having assaulted her on 4th September.

But Neil Hollett, prosecuting, told the court how on 14th October Lewis had broken a glass panel in his ex-partner’s front door and after gaining access shouted at her, demanding to know where she had been the previous night.

The court was told how Lewis’ ex-partner phoned the police when she saw the smashed glass and heard him confess all when they arrived.

“She said this caused her great concern as his bail conditions were not to contact her or go to her address,” said Mr Hollett.

Mr Hollett had told the court how prior to damaging his ex-partner’s door he had assaulted her at her aunt’s house because she was drunk, which made him angry.

“He grabbed her by the neck with both his hands because she was shouting at him,” said Mr Hollett. He later added; “The complainant received red marks to her neck as a result of his actions.”

Lewis admitted assault and criminal damage.

Chris Lacey, defending, said: “His (Lewis’) argument was that they had been out three or four times that week so she was not his former girlfriend.”

But, said Mr Lacey, he was now fully aware the relationship was over. He added: “He has decided he wants to get his life back on track by playing more football and exercise.”

As he gave Lewis 150 hours of unpaid work for 12 months the Mansfield magistrate said: “This is a serious assault especially in domestic conditions.”

Lewis was also banned from contacting his former girlfriend for 12 months. He was ordered to pay £75 compensation and £85 court costs for the assault and £30 compensation, £60 victim surcharge and £85 costs for the damage to the door.
