THE trial of a 22-year-old Riddings man, who is accused of murdering 30-year-old Somercotes woman Jade Riley-Ward, will take place in August.

Cornelius Brown, of Greenhill Lane, appeared before Nottingham Crown Court on Monday where he denied the murder of Miss Riley-Ward at her home on Burke Drive on 22nd September.

She was later found to have died from multiple stab wounds and shortly after her death Brown was arrested and charged with her murder.

Brown, who has already made three initial appearances at Nottingham Crown Court, remains in custody but will stand trial on 12th August and the case is set to last between five and seven days.

He wore a dark coloured pinstriped suit and tie and spoke to confirm his name and enter his plea during a short plea and case management hearing.

He was remanded in custody by Judge Michael Stokes QC, the Recorder of Nottingham, until trial.

The death of Miss Riley-Ward rocked the close-knit community with friends and relatives holding a two-hour vigil outside her home shortly after she died.

Floral tributes were left by mourners and cards, candles and teddy bears were also left by family and friends.

Her house remained manned by Derbyshire Police vehicles after her death as forensic examinations took place.

Police officers also made several appeals for witnesses to the incident prior to arresting Brown.

Detectives also renewed their appeal for a person who may have bought a puppy from Miss Riley-Ward to come forward at time of the incident.
