Huthwaite stable fire had ‘malicious intent’

Huthwaite stable fire.

Huthwaite stable fire.

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a blaze completely gutted a stable block and out buildings in Huthwaite.

Firefighters from Ashfield Fire Station were called to land off Columbia Avenue, off Huthwaite Road, at about 7pm on Tuesday 2nd October.

Police were also called to the scene where three stables and a storage room had been set ablaze.

Stable owner Ben Woolley said about £5,000 has been caused and is appealing for help in tracing the culprit.

He said: “Someone rang me to say I’d better get down there because it was all on fire.

“Three stables and a storage room have been completely gutted.

“It’ll probably cost about four or five thousand pounds to put thing back to how they were.

“I’m just glad there were no animals in there.

“It was probably just kids messing about or some idiot.

“I don’t think it was anyone with a grudge against me. If anyone did have a problem I don’t know why they wouldn’t just coma and knock on my door.

A spokesman from Nottinghamshire Police said they were investigating the incident as arson.

She added: “We believe the fire was started with malicious intent.

“Any witnesses or anyone with information should call police on 101 or on 0800 555 111.”
