Help your Hospital as Chad launches £750,000 MRI appeal for King’s Mill Hospital
CHAD is calling on our kind-hearted readers to dig deep and play a massive part in modernising the MRI facilities at King’s Mill Hospital.
We have teamed up with hospital bosses to launch a £750,000 fundraising appeal to help the medical facility purchase a new state-of-the-art MRI scanner.
Hospital bosses say the brand new scanner will revolutionise the service they offer and allow them to treat patients quicker, safer and allow them to diagnose illnesses at an earlier stage.
The new MRI scanner - a medical imaging technique used in radiology to visualize internal structures of the body in detail - is expected to be used over the next seven years to treat hundreds of thousands of patients across Mansfield and Ashfield.
And health bosses at the hospital are now urging businesses, residents and fundraising groups to come out in force in the coming months to back our MRI campaign.
Tracy Doucet, Chairman of Sherwood Forest Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “This is one of the single biggest pieces of equipment that a hospital can purchase. Equipment like this is what the NHS is all about. This scanner gives us the ability to detect and diagnose illnesses safely and quickly.
“This is a massive investment but one that will last us for the next seven years. The facility will help hundreds of thousands of patients and greatly improve the service we offer locally.
“The community support that we will receive is massive to us. This campaign is a great chance to showcase our services and for the whole community to work together to improve what we can offer to the area.
“We really think the community will get behind this. Top quality healthcare is something that the public deserves
“It is a massive amount of money, but we are confident we can meet our target.”
Ms Doucet’s views were also echoed by Jane Burkett, radiography services manager, who said a new MRI scanner was vital for King’s Mill Hospital.
She said: “The new MRI scanner would allow us to do examinations that previously were done in other hospitals. We need everyone in the community to get behind this campaign. It is a really exciting campaign.
“I have worked here for a long time and I remember when the hospital first got an MRI scanner, it will be really exciting to see it replaced. An MRI scanner is now a vital part of service for any district hospital.”
Jackie Collingwood, Superintendent Radiographer in MRI, said the campaign would give a massive boost to the hospital and the wider community.
“We now need something that is really modern and that can produce a much better image quality,” she said. “This new MRI scanner will give us a better range and quality of images. This will allow us to provide an enhanced service to patients. King’s Mill Hospital deserves a top quality MRI scanner.”
MRI provides good contrast between the different soft tissues of the body, which makes it especially useful in imaging the brain, muscles, the heart, and cancers compared with other medical imaging techniques such as computed tomography (CT) or X-rays. Unlike CT scans or traditional X-rays, MRI does not use ionizing radiation.
Donations to our MRI appeal can be made by visiting Chad receptions, calling the customer services department at King’s Mill Hospital on 01623 672222, by visiting Sherwood Forest Hospital’s NHS Trust website or by cheque.
All cheques should be made payable to Sherwood Forest Hospitals Charitable Funds.
