Have your say on social housing decision making in Mansfield and Ashfield
People across Mansfield and Ashfield are being asked to give their views on a new policy which sets out how social housing within the two Districts is allocated to tenants.
Ashfield and Mansfield Homefinder, which is the Choice Based Lettings (CBL) housing partnership between Mansfield District Council, Ashfield District Council and local housing associations, is revising its Choice Based Lettings policy following the introduction of new Government legislation.
Changes to the CBL policy follow on from the introduction of the Localism Act 2011 and new government guidance to councils about the allocation of accommodation. The changes mean that councils will have more freedom in deciding on how they allocate their properties.
The Allocation of Accommodation Guidance offers guidelines on which groups of people should be prioritised for social housing - for example ex-members of the Armed Forces and their families. It also identifies groups who do not qualify for housing, such as owner occupiers, who are already suitably housed.
Some of the other proposed changes to the Homefinder policy include:
excluding applicants who have a history of anti social behaviour,
excluding applicants who have serious rent arrears, and
giving priority to applicants who have young children under the age of five living in a flat above the ground floor or lacking access to a garden.

The consultation closes at 5pm on Friday 2nd November.
