Hallowe’en fun at Bolsover Castle

Following the success of last year’s Hallowe’en events at Bolsover Castle, English Heritage is promising even more ghostly apparitions and gruesome tales from the grave for its biggest ever Hallowe’en event.

For two evenings on Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th October Bolsover Castle’s ghostly secrets will be revealed, and a host of gruesome monsters will take over the Little Castle where a freakish fantasy adventure awaits those brave enough to enter, with special illuminations, gruesome effects and costumed actors.

Lucy Hutchings, English Heritage events manager says, “Visitors will be invited to step beyond the imposing walls of Bolsover Castle at night, and uncover the Castle’s dark secrets. A guide will take you on a tour of the Castle after dark to hear tales of death, disease and ghostly sightings. Then in the Little Castle visitors will enter a dark fantasy world where the Lord of the Castle toils in his laboratory, harnessing lightning in his quest to create life. Visitors will journey through the dark passages and witness the monstrous experiments being conducted. But beware; in the shadows lurks the results of the Lord’s earlier, failed experiments.

“These two nights promise to offer a frightfully entertaining evening filled with fear and fun.”

For families with younger children Bolsover Castle is staging, Time Travellers Go... Ghosts & Ghouls every day from Mon 29th October to Friday 2nd November. Children will be able to join one of the ghostly actor led tours and try their hand at Hallowe’en craft making.

Bolsover Castle will then be lit up again for the Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday 3rd November, with a fireworks display set to classical music and actors and musicians telling the story of Guy Fawkes.
