Green light for Mansfield Town’s state-of-the-art training facility

A STATE-of-the art indoor training facility at Mansfield Town’s One Call Stadium has been given the green light by planning chiefs.

An application was submitted by Stags owner John Radford in January and permission was granted by Mansfield District Council’s planning committee last week.

The club hope the facility can help take the club to the ‘next level’ and also benefit the local community.

The entire building will be a ‘three-staged development building’, incorporating a training area, offices, a gym, large meeting room, bar area and two changing rooms. It will be roofed by a three-tier solar panel.

It is hoped the building, new car park and access road off Quarry Lane, will be built by the start of the 2013/14 football season.

The project has been designed by MW Caddy architects based in Forest Town.

Paul Broughton, the Stags’ operations director, said: “This is a hugely positive move for the club. The training barn will be a state of the art facility and will give our players a first class training base, right next to the stadium.

“Its main purpose is, of course, to enhance our players’ development. It will also be available for use to the community soon after it is up and running.

“It is all part of our long-term commitment to improve all areas of the football club and take us to the next level,” he added.

Three letters of support for the plan were received and one letter of objection from a resident living on Quarry Lane.

Planning permission was granted on the condition no building work starts until further plans and details of the building’s exterior and landscaping around the building have been submitted.

Construction will not be allowed to take place other than Monday to Friday 8am -6pm, Saturdays 8am - 1pm. No work shall take place on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
