A Proms concert by Newstead Brass Band has raised £400 in aid of Portland College’s bid to build a £2m sports centre.
The event, organised by the Hilltoppers Golf Society and the Rotary Club of Hucknall, is the first in a series of fundraisers for the Ravenshead college which helps people with disabilities.
The concert was held at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club on Saturday 5th July.
Andrea Hudson, fundraiser at the college, said: “The first half was a collection of music chosen by the band but then in the second half there was a hearty sing-along with the usual Proms favourites.
“A notable feature of the evening was a ‘fly past’ on two occasions by a Promenader to The Dambusters theme by Eric Coates.”
Since 2001, The Hilltoppers and the Rotary Club of Hucknall have raised over £70,000 for good causes.
A spokesman for the Hilltoppers said: “The sports centre has been designed to enable disabled students to access top class facilities for training, competition and education.
“The first equipment we hope to provide are sports wheelchairs for wheelchair rugby and other such games. They cost approximately £1,000 each and with your support we hope to be able to purchase as many as possible.”
The Hilltoppers Golf Society are set to hold a charity golf day on Friday 12th September at Radcliffe-on-Trent Golf Club.
A four ball team entry to play this very special course is £140 per team which includes: 18 holes of golf, followed by food, an auction and prize giving at the end of the day.
Stableford Rules will be played in teams of four, off three quarters handicap, with the best two out of four scores on each hole to count.

Please find attached the latest fundraising event from the Hilltoppers who are supporting us for the year. I have also attached a golf day that they are organising as we still have a few team places left. If you could help us promote it we would appreciate it
