Gold star for Green Trust

NOTTINGHAMSHIRE Healthcare has been named as the top NHS Trust in the country for energy efficiency performance.

The integrated healthcare provider was placed 33 out of 2098 organisations from the public and private sector and scored highest out of the entrants from other NHS Trusts in the Carbon Reduction Commitment (CRC) Performance League Table (PLT).

The league table results published by the Environment Agency cover the year 2011/12.

Simon Smith, executive director of local services and sustainability lead for the Trust said: “This achievement reflects the tremendous work which has been carried out over recent years to reduce energy use and carbon emissions across the Trust.

“We are working hard to become a greener, low carbon organisation and it is great to see our progress recognised nationally.”

The Trust will be celebrating NHS Sustainability Day on 28 March. Staff and service users will be able to participate in a number of activities and demonstrations such as test driving electric cars, to inform and raise awareness of environmental issues.
