Police in Glapwell are offering residents the chance to get hold of free tamper proof number plate screws.

They are being handed out in two events in Glapwell as part of a local initiative to help prevent and reduce the chances of number plates being stolen.

The initiative has been set up after a number of reports of number plates being stolen from vehicles in the village, with four reported since Monday, September 24.

In the latest incident the front and rear number plates of a Nissan Navara, parked on Sycamore Avenue at Glapwell, were stolen sometime overnight between Wednesday, October 31 and Thursday, November 1.

Officers will be at Glapwell Community Centre at The Green on:

Saturday, November 10: Between 12pm and 4pm

Friday, November 16: 6pm to 9pm

Pc Tony Bagshaw of the Pleasley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team, which covers Glapwell, said: “Having your number plates stolen can be expensive and inconvenient to sort out and so we are offering residents the chance to get hold of free anti-theft number plate screws. Motorists will also be able to pick up advice on crime prevention or speak to us about any other concerns or issues they may have.”

The tamper proof screws and crime prevention packs have been provided by the Bolsover Community Safety Partnership.

There is a limited supply and packs will be given to Glapwell residents only, on a first come, first served basis.

To contact the Pleasley Safer Neighbourhood Policing Team call 101, the non emergency number for Derbyshire police, or email bolsover.neighbourhoods@derbyshire.pnn.police.uk.
