TEAMS of golfers are being asked to ‘putt’ themselves forward to raise cash in memory of soldier Ashley Clarkson.

Ashley’s father, Wayne, is organising a special day at Mansfield Golf Course this coming June, but is making an early call for players to sign up.

Wayne said: “We are looking at getting teams of four to take part, which will be £15 per person to take part, and we’re also wanting sponsors for the 19 tees at £50 each.”

In addition to the golf , a family fun day will be held throughout with crazy golf, a barbecue, bouncy castle and face painting.

All money raised will go towards helping ex-servicemen adjust to civilian life.

Last year Ashley (23) hanged himself at home whilst suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.

A serving solider in Iraq with the Royal Logistics Corps, he witnessed the horrors of the frontline, including the death of a little girl from an IED.

Ashley was diagnosed before he left the army and his family insist he received little help for the condition.

Since his death, members of his family have dedicated themselves to raising awareness of the condition through various charity events, including the golf tournament, to be held on 23rd June.

Anyone interested in taking part should phone Wayne on 07554 218999 or email wayne40.wendy30@hotmail.com.
