Free football sessions in Kirkby aims to cut crime and anti-social behaviour

Free of charge Friday night football sessions are now being run in Kirkby for young people aged between 10 and 19.

Organised by Nottingham Positive Futures, Catch22, the football is open to young people aged 10 to 19 and provides them with a place a meet up at the start of the weekend.

The aim of the sporting project, being funded by Ashfield Community Safety Partnership, is to engage young people in positive activities, and to help divert them away from nuisance or anti-social behaviour, alcohol or drug misuse.

The sessions take place on the Astro pitch at Kingsway Park from 7pm to 9pm every Friday and will continue until early April. It is hoped it will conclude with a competition week.

In addition, for about an hour before the football gets underway outreach workers from Positive Futures are around in the area concerned every week to talk with young people.

The Positive Futures team has been out and about ahead of the sessions starting to make young people aware that they are happening. Other members of the Community Safety Partnership including the Police and District Council are also helping to spread the word about them.

Anyone interested in getting involved is welcome to just turn up on the night, make contact through facebook at positivefuturesnottingham or text Alfie Smith on 07872 421865.
