The Chad has teamed up with The Sweet Explosion in the Idlewells Shopping Centre for a fantastic offer giving each reader a FREE American cake bar worth £1.50.

Simply cut out the voucher on this page and take it into the store. The offer runs for one week from the day of publication, while stocks last.

Owner Rachel Taylor-Colclough opened the retro-sweet store six months ago after the success of a stall in the indoor market and the business is going from strength to strength.

She said: “As well as being an old-fashioned sweet shop, we sell sweet and chocolate bouquets, sweet trees, ice cream, slush puppies and Shmoo milkshakes.

“There’s a big pick ‘n’ mix selection with over 40 choices of sweets, with everything from Haribos, to Liquorice All-sorts, to bonbons.

“As far as I am aware - we are the only shop in Sutton selling American sweets. We weren’t going to stock them originally - but people started asking for them and they are very popular.”

It’s not all about sweet treats, as the shop also sells a range of beautiful and quirky home gifts, like cushions, mugs, wooden hearts and signs, canvases, metal signs, tealights from suppliers such as East of India, Heaven Sends and Richard Langs and other local suppliers.

The shop also offers sweets and gifts for weddings and birthdays, wedding favours and party bags and has a candy cart for all occasions which is available for hire.

It also runs a savings club, which enables people to pay as little as a pound a week, to save up for a big Christmas treat or a wedding.

Rachel runs the store with the help of her husband Jason and son Zac (13), and she has recruited apprentice Kara Dudley, who she says is ‘great asset to our business.’

The former teaching assistant started the business from home, attending craft fairs and local events, before moving into a rented space at Carrbank Stables.

But the business outgrew the stables and after six months in the indoor market she was able to make the transition to the Idlewells.

She said: “We would like say a big thank you to friends and family for all the help and support they have given us and of course a massive thank you to our lovely customers.”

The Sweet Explosion is open from 9am to 5pm, from Monday to Saturday, and is located near to the Sutton bus station entrance, opposite New Look.
