Mansfield’s Four Seasons shopping centre was flooded as torrential rain battered the region yesterday.

Firefighters were called to pump out water which crews said was five inches deep in places, after the downpour at 5.15pm.

Crews from Ashfield and Mansfield, Stockhill and Warsop attended the scene and isolated the electrics before leaving four pumps overnight to drain the water.

A Fire Services spokesman said Boots and Debenhams had been particularly affected by the flooding.

He said: “The water initially came in through the roof but eventually started coming up through the floor.

“We have left pumps in situ and we are coming back later today (Saturday)to evaluate the situation.”

Other parts of the town were also flooded.

Stockwell Gate in Mansfield was described as being ‘like a river’ during the storm.

More heavy rain is expected on Sunday, and the Met Office has issued a weather warning for torrential rain between 12.15am and 11.45pm.

The weather could become “dangerous and volatile” over the weekend if ex-hurricane Bertha hits The Mansfield and Ashfield area.
