Former Mansfield man Mick Philpott watched his wife have sex with another man, court told

THE wife of Mick Philpott told a work colleague about having sex with another man while her husband was there, a manslaughter jury was told.

Mairead Philpott said she became pregnant and asked for time off to get an abortion, said witness Claire Tyler.

The two women worked together as hospital cleaners in Derby for seven years.

Former Mansfield man Mick Philpott (56) his wife, aged 31, and his friend Paul Mosley (46) plead not guilty to the manslaughter of the Philpotts’ six children in a house fire at their council home in Derby last May.

Shaun Smith, QC, for Mairead Philpott, asked Tyler about the conversation about the abortion: “She said it was because she’d had sex with another man and a child was the result of that?

Mr Smith continued: “That was when Mick was there, when she had sex with another man?” Ms Tyler said it was.

An earlier witness, Heather Kehoe, told the court on Thursday that she met Mick Philpott nearly 20 years ago at a fishing lake near her home in Rainworth.

She was 14 and he was 37.

They later began a sexual relationship and were once caught in bed together at the home he shared with his first wife Pamela Lomax.

He left and took 16-year-old Ms Kehoe with him to Derby. Six months later she was pregnant with the first of their two children.

She said Philpott knew what to say to make her feel special but when he was angry he would hit her.

“He had to have everything his own way,” she said.

She was sent out to work as a cleaner at East Midlands Airport.

The jury have heard she later left Mick Philpott and ran away.

The prosecution claim father-of-17 Mick Philpott planned the fire at his home then tried to frame his ex-mistress Lisa Willis for it, as part of a custody battle over their children.

But the plan went ‘horribly’ wrong and the children were not led to safety but were killed.

The trial continues.
