A SINGING sensation has taken the internet by storm after clocking up more than half-a-million views for his music video in less than a week.

Fledgling musician James Dalby (24), of Forest Town, posted the video of himself playing his guitar and singing his own cover version of ‘Ignition’ by R&B star R Kelly onto Youtube last Tuesday.

By Thursday the video had gone viral with more than 200,000 views registered. It has now close to 700,000.

The three-minute video, shot in his bedroom-based home studio, is one of many posted by James on the video website in recent years.

However, none have had the interest that his latest effort has attracted, even though he admits his musical interest lies largely in British rock ‘n’ roll, from The Beatles up to modern-day acts like Ed Sheeran.

He said: “I’ve been doing covers for years and I try to do something that’s a bit of challenge, I don’t like those that are the same as the original, I like to try and make them their own.

“There’s been a lot of really nice comments - but even when there’s one that’s not very nice there seems to be nice comments quickly following it.

“It’s crazy, there must be a lot of R Kelly fans out there!

“It’s a bit surreal to be honest. Until this, the most views I’ve ever had was 4,000 and that was amazing.”

The internet frenzy was triggered after his friend Simon Groom, posted the video on social media site Reddit. Since then it has spread quickly around the globe, even making an appearance on the website of American network giant, CBS.
