Fierce objection to 400-homes plan in Ravenshead

RAVENSHEAD villagers continue to object to controversial plans to build more than 400 houses as part of a future development strategy by Gedling Borough Council.

The latest move in the Gedling Council planning saga has seen an amended strategy to build thousands of new homes across the district go before cabinet.

This includes proposals to build over 400 houses in Ravenshead at proposed sites on Longdale Lane and off Main Road as well as 4,000 new homes on greenbelt land in Papplewick, Linby, Bestwood Village and Hucknall.

“Our major concerns as a village is that Ravenshead is already overdeveloped,” said parish council chairman, Coun Joe Lonergan. “The village was not designed to be a town and the centre is already overcrowded.

These 400 extra homes will bring an estimated 1,000 additional people. The village infrastructure just won’t be able to cope.”

An area has already been earmarked called the Cornwater Site off Longdale Lane, where 100 houses are proposed. This area was previously greenbelt but was downgraded to white land by planning inspectors earlier in the process.

A further 200 houses in the north of the village off Main Road also form part of the plan as well as 116 homes already identified and granted outline planning permission.

The strategy will next be discussed by full council at a meeting on Wednesday 13th February at the Civic Centre in Arnold at 6.45pm before being finally submitted to the government department for Communities and Local Government (CLG) around June.
