Drunken defendant is given 30 days’ jail

A DRUNKEN defendant who repeatedly swore at magistrates was granted his wish and sent to prison.

Michael Linford (27) of no fixed abode was appearing before Mansfield magistrates after he stole a £1.95 bottle of cider from Bargain Booze in Warsop.

The defendant, who has a long list of drink-related offences, swore his way through the hearing, continuously using the f-word and calling the magistrates obscene names, as well as shouting ‘No comment’ when anyone spoke.

Defending, Mark Little, said his client wanted to go to prison to detox and help sort his life out.

After a sentence of 30 days was passed, four security guards were brought in to handcuff the defendant and take him away.
