Driver narrowly avoids custody

A DRINK-DRIVER narrowly avoided custody after being caught behind the wheel for a third time.

Luke Harmon (24) of Greendale Crescent, Clipstone, was found to be more than twice the legal limit on Mansfield’s Queen Street on 15th February.

Mansfield magistrates were told it was the third time he had been caught over the limit in recent years, and was serving a ban already imposed for the same offence in August of last year.

Magistrates described him as a ‘silly young man’ and told him that a jail was a ‘suitable option’, but instead handed him a 12-week sentence suspended for a year. He was ordered to pay £165 in costs and charges and banned from driving for four years. As part of a community order, he was also told to take part in an alcohol programme.
