Drinker tried to punch Mansfield doorman

A drinker who took a swing at a bouncer outside a Mansfield pub before being taken to the ground has appeared in court.

Jason Stapleton had been arguing with door staff outside the Stag and Pheasant pub on Clumber Street in the early hours while being watched by police.

The 26-year-old, of Smith Street in the town, was then seen aiming and missing a punch at one of the workers before jumping back into a fighting stance.

By the time the police got to him to arrest him he was on the floor.

Admitting a charge of being drunk and disorderly at Mansfield Magistrates’ Court, he was not represented by a solicitor.

When asked if he wanted to explain his actions he said: “The bouncer started with me.

“I never struggled, one of them smashed my head off the floor.”

The court was told that it was the first time Stapleton had been in trouble in nine years, which was taken into account on sentencing.

He was fined £100, and made to pay £85 costs and£30 victim surcharge.
