Damage warning to Mansfield motorists

NEWS: News.

NEWS: News.

MOTORISTS in Mansfield are being urged to keep their vehicles safe after an increase in criminal damage to cars.

Since 1st January police in Mansfield South have been called to 21 incidents where cars had been damaged.

The beat area covers Berry Hill, Lindhurst, Eakring, Oak Tree, Portland and Ravensdale.

The spate has seen windscreens and paintwork scratched, wing mirrors ripped off and tyres slashed.

Police were called to Clipstone Avenue, Mansfield, on Tuesday 19th February to reports of wing mirrors smashed off a car. The incident is thought to have taken place at about 8pm.

On the same day, between 9.30am and 11am, a BMW had its paintwork scratched at Southwell Road East.

Temporary Sergeant Jamie Bower said: “This sort of criminal damage is not only upsetting to the owners of the vehicles, but it is also very costly to repair what is, frankly, needless and mindless acts of vandalism.

“We are increasing our patrols in the area and also asking the public to do everything they can to avoid being a victim. Parking vehicles in a secure garage or a well-lit street can help.

“Someone must know who is responsible for this damage. I imagine the perpetrators will be the sorts of people to boast to others. If anyone has information I want him or her to contact the police.

“We want to drive incidents down and give absolutely no chances for opportunistic offenders to strike.”

To report unusual activity around vehicles or if you have any information contact Nottinghamshire Police on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
