People had to be evacuated from homes in a Shirebrook street following a blaze in an upstairs bedroom in the early hours of this morning.

Firefighters from Shirebrook, Bolsover and Warsop fire stations attended the blaze in Sookholme Road, Shirebrook at around 1.45am on Saturday, 2nd August.

Properties on either side of the terrace house were evacuated and people were inside the home when the fire took hold, a Derbyshire Fire Service spokesman said.

Crews used two hosereel jets and breathing apparatus to tackle the blaze, and also had to remove part of the roof.

Police and ambulance staff also attended the incident but ‘all persons were accounted for’, firefighters said.

It is not known whether residents needed hospital treatment.
