Derbyshire County Council is calling on people to have their say to help reduce landfill which is costing taxpayers £22.7m a year.

Coun Joan Dixon, cabinet member for jobs, economy and transport, said: “Households are still throwing around 245,000 tonnes of waste into their general waste bin – even though around half of it could have been recycled or composted.

“The county council is facing difficult financial times and needs to save £157 million over the next five years.”

Staff will be on hand to talk to local people and hand out questionnaires at Bolsover Library on Friday 24th January from 10am-noon.

Derbyshire residents can take part in the survey and find the draft strategy and action plans at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/wastestrategy.
