Councillors agree next stages of Warwick Close regeneration
THE next stages in the regeneration of part of Kirkby estate, which was once a target for troublemakers, has been agreed by councllors.
Residents living near Warwick Close, which is on the town’s Coxmoor estate, have previously reported high levels of crime and anti-social behaviour and in 2010, bosses at Ashfield District Council took the decision to demolish 40 houses and flats on the street.
The demolition was completed in February 2011.
At a cabinet meeting on Thursday, councillors agreed to look for a development partner for a scheme which could result in the construction of council housing and homes for sale.
Council leader John Knight said: “This is a key site in the council’s programme of redevelopment and it is proof that at Ashfield, what we say, we do.”
Residents living around Warwick Close have previously welcomed the decision to demolish the houses.
When plans to demolish the properties were announced, one householder said she would like to see new family homes.
