BOLSOVER District Council has frozen Council Tax for the third year running.
Councillors met on Friday 1st March to agree the freeze, even though the council continues to be one of the top ten worst hit in the country in terms of the funding it receives from the government.
With a budget of £10.489m for next year, the council has managed reductions in government grants of £4m over the past two years with a further £1million over the next two years.
Coun Alan Tomlinson, Bolsover District Council’s deputy leader, said: “These are tough times, not only for local councils, but for our local communities as well and that is why we have taken the decision to freeze our proportion of the
Council Tax for a third year and not burden our residents with a hike in another household bill.
“The reduction in our grant funding is astonishing, so tough decisions have got to be made. But our financial plans are in place and show we are planning for the future, that we are a responsible Council and that we will continue to do our best to protect jobs and services.”
Bolsover District Council is the billing authority, but only receives around 10p of every pound of Council Tax collected, with the remaining 90p going to the county council, the Police and Fire authorities and town and parish councils.
