Nottinghamshire County Council has added its congratulations to the latest achievements of Mansfield swimmer Becky Adlington after her second bronze medal at the London Olympics on Friday evening.
Adlington claimed third spot in the 800 metres freestyle just a few days after taking bronze in the 400.
The county council provides an annual grant to her swimming club, Nova Centurion Swimming Club, based in the county and Nottinghamshire County Council Leader Kay Cutts said: “Nottinghamshire County Council is very proud of Becky Adlington and her latest success at London 2012. As a county council, we have supported her and Nova Centurion Swimming Club since she first got involved with swimming at an early age. Her achievements in Beijing brought a huge amount of prestige to Mansfield and Nottinghamshire and she has crowned that success with two more medals here at London 2012.
“It was telling that Becky was named as Sportsperson of the Year at our annual Nottinghamshire Sports Awards earlier this year as it is an award which is voted for by people who work at the grassroots level of sport and that was even before her latest achievements in London. Well done Becky!”
Coun John Cottee, committee chairman for Culture at Nottinghamshire County Council said: “Congratulations to Becky Adlington for her latest achievements on home soil. She was one of the major stars of the Beijing Games in 2008 and we are proud of her performances again at London 2012, and that Nottinghamshire County Council played such a crucial part in helping to shape her early career.”
