Community RePaint scheme to brighten up Nottinghamshire community groups

DOES your community group need some paint but the budget won’t stretch?

Then the Community RePaint Nottinghamshire scheme could be the perfect solution. The scheme has already given away more than 2,500 litres of free paint to groups since its launch and is keen to help even more.

Community RePaint Nottinghamshire accepts unwanted paint from members of the public and then passes any good quality reusable paint on to groups and charities to help them with refurbishment, renovation and training projects that they’re involved in.

Since its launch in August 2010, more than 120 organisations have signed up for the scheme, which is run by Nottinghamshire County Council and its waste management contractor, Veolia Environmental Services.

“This scheme is a great idea as it means people can donate their unwanted or surplus paint by bringing it to either Calverton or Worksop household waste recycling centres where it is sorted and stored safely,” said Coun Richard Butler, the county council’s cabinet member for environment and sustainability.

“Community groups, who have registered for the scheme, can then arrange to visit the sites, choose the paint they need and take it away free of charge.

“We’ve had such a brilliant take-up of paint at both Worksop and Calverton but we’re now in the fortunate position of having quite a surplus so we’re really keen to hear from more charities and voluntary groups across Nottinghamshire whose budgets might not stretch to the price of the paint they need to complete their project.”

Groups which have already taken advantage of the free paint include the Oasis Community Project, which is transforming a derelict youth centre on the Kilton estate in Worksop, and Riding for the Disabled which used paint to brighten up obstacles for the RDA Handy Pony competition at Southwell Show as well as painting the insides of stables at Woodside Farm in Rainworth.
